Events that are corporate can be classified as meetings, conferences, seminars, networking events, conventions, workshops, knowledge and training events. Meetings are short gatherings usually in companies that are used to provide information on different matters to employees or as a tool for coming up with business and financial strategies. They can also be used to deliberate on operational and strategic procedures in different institutions.

Seminars on the other hand are events occurring between a few hours to a few days that discuss different subjects and are delivered by people usually referred to as thought leaders or subject matter experts from different industries or sectors. Seminars take the form of lectures or discussions. Sometimes, workshop and seminar are used interchangeably but in workshops, a more hands on approach is adopted.

Conferences are gatherings that are meant to meet a specific objective for example, educate people on a matter of concern. Conference usually take place during a short duration mostly less than a week. Conventions are more or less like conferences but they are longer in nature. Networking events on the other hand are events that are specifically dedicated to meeting people with common interests.

Social events touch on the social aspect of life and they may include gaming events, parties, concerts and performances. These events are usually organised for people to have fun together but at times, they may be for charitable causes or to drive awareness of serious issues currently affecting the social environment in an organisation, state or continent.

Organising events

In order to successfully organise an event, the company is expected to understand the vision, mission and objectives of the event. Once these have been understood, a plan is developed to articulate what will happen during the event and what the company needs to do to deliver the event successfully.

The manager works closely with the organisation or group in order to ensure that everything is done satisfactorily. The event management companies are responsible for planning, marketing, logistical arrangements and execution of the event. Their payment is usually pegged on the number and type of delegates, the size of event and the size, nature and type of organisation or group on whose behalf the event is being organised.
